(Avalon/Stone Harbor, NJ)— The 7 Mile Island communities of Avalon and Stone Harbor held Veterans Day ceremonies on Friday, November 11th.  Following the ceremonies, Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi and Stone Harbor Mayor Suzanne Walters were both recognized at American Legion Post #331 for their contributions regarding a recent landscaping and beautification effort on the grounds of the Post.

Avalon’s ceremony included comments from Post Commander Jim Fleischmann and Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi.  The ceremony was held at Avalon’s Veterans Plaza in the downtown district where volunteers have established special recognition program for veterans who live, and have lived, in Avalon.  Light posts in Avalon’s award-winning downtown district are adorned with special banners who honor the men and women who have served the United States Military.

Stone Harbor’s ceremony included comments from Post Vice Commander Tom McCullough of Avalon and by Adjutant Vicki Lachman, who thanked both mayors with special proclamations for their support of the Legion for the beautification effort.  The Avalon Department of Public Works, the Stone Harbor Department of Public Works, and volunteers from both communities were also recognized for their donations of plantings, labor, and finances that made the beautification effort possible.
